The
Amalfi Coast is located on the southern side of Sorrento's
peninsula. There is one main road which winds along the Amalfi
Coast. Driving in this area is definitely an experience and
parking can be a challenge. There is bus service connecting
towns along the Amalfi Coast and some towns have local bus
service. With many paths along the cliffs, the Amalfi Coast
is an ideal place for walking. Follow one of these winding
paths from the main road down to the sea and take a swim.
It is also possible to walk between towns, but watch out for
cars on the narrow winding road.
Positano
is a beautiful seaside village clambering down a steep slope
to the sea. Enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of this charming seaside
village. Walk to the beach and go for a swim, admire painters'
work, window shop at the colorful boutiques, or stroll the
narrow streets of the vibrant, fashionable center. Positano
has a shuttle bus which makes a continuous loop taking riders
up and/or down from the heart of the town at sea level to
places perched high on the hillside.
As
is the rule in Italy, dining on the Amalfi Coast is a wonderful
experience. Dine on locally caught fresh seafood while sipping
lacrima christi wine. Sample limoncello, a sweet lemon liquor.
On warm afternoons, cool off with lemonade made with fresh
locally grown lemons or enjoy an icy granita. Try the various
types of pastries from the region.
There's
plenty to do on the Amalfi Coast. See the lovely 10th century
duomo in Amalfi, shop for ceramics in the town of Vietri sul
Mare, and enjoy the spectacular views from Ravello. For those
wishing to venture a bit farther out, there's lots to see
in the surrounding area as well. Take a day trip to Pompei,
spend a day exploring the Island of Capri, or visit Paestum,
an ancient Greek site.
